“I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass… and I’m all out of bubblegum.”
That’s all I knew about John Carpenter’s ‘They live’ when I watched it for the first time. I expected a silly action movie, which it was to a certain extent, but the scene shown above added something extra. The scene(s) made me aware of the existence of graphic design in cinema. I’ve seen a lot of movies since then, but graphic design or typography in other movies has hardly ever been as powerful as in ‘They live.‘
